black cup on 282?

    black cup on 282?

    on the front side of my tranny there is a black like cup. i know its suposed to be there but wats in it and can it be removed?

      Why remove it when you could paint it yellow and put a smiley face one it?

            at least yours is mostly black.. mine is rusty and dented.

            why do you want to take it off?

                well i have to make a custom mount and would be easyer if it wasnt there but i didnt know wat it covered.

                  I believe that caps off the bottom of the shift shaft, and is where the 5-R bias spring is housed... very not removable.

                      It just houses the bottom of one of the shift shafts.

                      You can remove it, mine rusted though and it leaked oil. Its just a press fit. I replaced it with another used one.
