well from what i've read it appears the cam sensor lobe, on the cam is diffrent after 99, so for 00-03 you need the older cam, and 04-05 is a diffrent crank sensor, and cam sensor. sound right? anyone?

You don't need a different cam. You just need the sensor that matches the cam. And the crank trigger only changed in the 3500, not the 3400.

To answer your first question, yes you can put an 05 3400 in your car. There may be a few small things that you'd need to exchange between engines (sensors come to mind, and maybe the timing cover), but other than that, its almost a direct replacement.

you point me to where i could do some more reading on these? the JY interchange is 96-99, then 00-02, 03-05. what i've read on here lead to make my opinions on the cam, cranks sensors. also if i adapt the wires to a 00-02 engine will the ecm agree? lol
i'm more of a quad guy, this is my first 3x00 series.

Well, instead of pointing you in a direction, I'll give you an example. I have a 94 Beretta (stock 3100) that I swapped in an 02 3400 and didn't do any rewiring. The JY interchange is doing to give you a DIRECT replacement. Therefore, if there are any slight differences, its not considered a DIRECT replacement to them. But, there have been enough people on here that have done this swap that whatever you end up getting, we can help you get it installed an running.

There is also www.3400swap.com which will semi-explain some of the sensor issues (although it's too old to cover an 05 3400... but nothing changed anyway).

cool, if you go looking in JY's any 99 has a 99xxx to 150xxx miles and they want 600-1000 for them. i can find 00-05 with as little as 5xxx on them for 400-500 all with in 80 miles of me.

It isusually the PCM as well as the exhaust that makes the difference.
