2.8 timing cover

hey guys i am looking for a pic of a older timing cover off of a 2.8 where they like a sbc cover ?

No they never were. They are always cast aluminum. The Early FWD and RWD ones had a water pump that sat in the middle of the motor while the later FWD models had an offset pump.

You cannot get a cover that only covers the chain with a pump that is separate.

would it be possible to machine off the water pump part off i wonder ?
still looking for pics both sides close up if possible (rwd camaro)

EDIT: You have to remember the 60* is very narrow, that's why the timing cover and water pump mount are married.

I suppose you could machine the pump section off. But you would have to figure out how to get water into the block. Maybe use a remote pump? Maybe with tubes pressed into the front of the block and then attached to piping

well that is what i have in mind ! it's for a drag car and i saw alot of or guys running a electric pump off the side and it's plumed with braided hose or copper pipes so that's what i would like to do because of the lack of room in the engine bay

Yea I am sure you could do it then. I would either put threads in the block and screw in a pipe or press and solder in brass pipe.

Screw in ones would be better for service. I wonder how big NPT to AN fittings come? You may be able to use that. Standard stuff is always easier to work with.

Are you just going to hack up a stock cover to only keep the oil in?

yeah that was the plan i guess
but i am open to any other ideas
