    removal of accessory belt tensioner

    How do you remove the belt tensioner off a 2.8 MFI?

    Never seen one, but a pic might help me help you.

    Just did one on my LA1 last weekend in the 20* weather, what fun, but not hard. At least on my car it's held in by one 15mm bolt

      on the passenger side there is a tensioner that you need a 3/8 ratchet to loosen to remove the accessory belt off. It is 20 years old and never replaced.
      I see it move up and down quite easily with the motor running. In the past it didn't move as much so now i think it needs to be replaced as it does not keep a good tension.

        If it's anything like mine there is one bolt thru the center holding it on the block. Loosen the belt and get a socket down there and undo the bolt and take it out

            talk about a PITA! find the most shallow socked you can and hope its not too long lol. took me a good half an hour on my beretta with the 3400. you may have to switch to a wrench after a few turns

              You actually have more room to get at it than I do. In the GM service manual for my car you have to raise the front of the car up on stands, remove front passenger wheel, put a jack up to the oil-pan, undo upper engine mount, lower engine with the jack, then access tensioner through passenger-side splash shield.

              The same procedure might work for you. It didn't work in my car though, engine wouldn't lower enough. Silly GM.
