1997 3.1...What are these items

Help with identifying these 2 items on my 1997 3.1 engine...Thanks....Tom

the second one is the distributor/oil pump seal... while you've got it torn apart, pull out the plug and replace the o-ring, it's known to leak...

Is this easy to do? Will anything go down into the engine? It's very dry for now with over 250,000 miles, sure it might leak?

you really think it's worth the risk? it's like a $1 o-ring
