    3x00 what does this stand for?

    I see this abbreviation everywhere. What does it symbolize?

      it's refering to the fact that 3100, 3400, and to some extent, the non-VVT 3500s are all basically identical motors, just with differences in displacement.
      1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

        the x in 3x00 is a numeral wildcard. Means replace it with any of a group of other numbers i.e. 3100, 3400,3500,3900, etc...

          It also means someone is talking about the gen 3 60 degree v6's. Gen 1 (slang for Generation 1) was the iron heads, gen 2 was the aluminum heads started in the FWD cars with flat tappet cams/lifters and gen 3 improved on the gen 2's and moved to roller cams/lifters with improved intakes and cross bolted mains w/ aluminum oil pans.

            gen3 also got the lovely priority mains oiling.

                that's a VVT motor, so gen4.
