    Flywheel question

would my 86 fiero 2.8L flywheel work on a 94 or earlier 3.1L (or 3.4L) or will I need a neutral balanced one?

You'll need a neutral balanced flywheel for any 88+ engine.

You can get the weight machined off the old flywheel like I did, if you can't find a newer style.

probably be my cheapest option since my father in law is a machinist.. I'm trying to do a fairly quick and cheap swap since I am planning to move in a few months, and I'd like to be able to drive my car instead of trailering it 1200kms (plus a 5 hr ferry ride).

Rockauto sells new flywheels for less than $40 plus shipping.

I just checked, and the cheapest shipping for me would be $50.. Does anyone know where in Canada I might be able to get an 88 flywheel? I checked autopartsway as well, and they didnt have anything.

I'm in Canada too; the first time I walked across the ferry to Port Angeles to get some parts because they were like getting 1/2 off locally, second time I just combined enough items on rock auto to make shipping not so bad.

When I was checking local auto parts stores for 88+ flywheels the only place I could find one was NAPA at $100.

                  Check www.car-part.com
You can check the junkyards across the country.
I know for sure there's one in Rocky Mountain House, AB for $70

Are there any other cars that have the same part number flywheel?

00-02 J-bodies with the 2.2L pushrod motor use the same flywheel, S10s with the 2.2L pushrod motor as well. Earlier 88+ V6 J-bodies obviously.

Keep in mind that if you get a jy one it might need resurfacing anyway which costs around $50 here.
