    3.1l press in cam plug

im just curious here. i pull the trans out of a 94 cavalier rs wagon (3.1l gen 2 with a th125) at work. when i pulled the flex plate to look for the usual leaky bolt on cam cover, i discovered that it was a press in plug like a 3x00 uses.

im just curious, what year did they change the 3.1l to the press in plug???

I've never seen a genII with a press in cam plug. :-?

Maybe a 1994 only deal, more investigation needed.

it surprised the hell outa me, i thought that was one of the things that changed only on the gen 3 motors.

to help the investigation, it was a 94 cavalier rs wagon, production date was 06/94.

in '94 GM was going through a cahnge on certian things... That was one of them.I know '94 Luminas use a the newer style induction/airfilter box.

I can understand something like an air filter box, but to make a whole new casting for what at this point looks like one year, and in addition to that, one model only? (AFAIK the J-body was the only platform to retain the genII 660)

Luminas retained it also for some odd reason IIRC.
