hey everyone I am fresh to the v6 world and this site I was wondering if there was a difference between the 3100 with the built in pushrod guides and the ones that have the guides built on the lower intake gasket got a motor for my 97 lumina at a salvage yard and it has steel pushrod guides where the motor that was in my car had them made on the gasket

The steel guideplates are used on engines that don't have roller rockers (early engines). The roller rockers align themselves, so the guideplates are not needed. The plastic guides in the later engines are just there to hold the pushrod during engine assembly; they serve no purpose once the rockers are installed.

As long as the heads have the notches for the roller rocker pedestals, you'll be able to. The heads started getting them in 95, but not all the heads got them. After 96, all the heads should have the notches in them.-Brad-
