    Crank Position Sensor

I'm trying to toubleshoot my 89 Z24 2.8 auto. The car has sat for a few years while I was waiting to get of of the Military. While I was away my brother decided to take it apart to try mods that he would later do on his car. Problem is he never put things back together again and in the process lost parts, peices and bolts (thanks dickhead). Well I reassembled the coil system he took off and tried to start the car and got a big fat nuth'n. I think I have tracked it down to a faulty CPS. Is there a way to varify if my cps is good or bad while in the car? Also is the cps unit for a 97 venture 3400 interchangeable with my 89 2.8's? I have my brother's 3400 on the engine stand in my garage. I was thinking i could use it as a "known good" to see if that is my problem.

    Thanks

    Shay

I'd say yeah it's the same if the connector and size/shape is the same. As the crank signal 7x or whatever hasn't changed untill the 3500 came out.

      yep, it's the same CPS.

if you have a multimeter unplug it at the ignition module (If i remember right it's the 2 pin plug right above the larger plug) and measure across the 2 leads. Should be around 980K ohms.

Or just try and pull it out. Often they fail because they crack.
