    ticking noise, low milleage 3400

So i fired my 3400 up in my fiero yesterday for the first time and it is running really smooth, idles at about 750. I did notice a loud tick from the engine. I have read that these engines have piston slap and noisy valves but it sound different to me, also the engine only has 20k on it. the tick is about 10 or so times a second and doesnt go away when warm. when i put my hand on the fuel rail i can feel the tick and it sounds like it coming from the injectors maybe? the noise seem to loud to be injectors tho. also i can hear a hiss that sounds like an open vacuum line in the engine but it isnt. is this be the fuel? thanks guys

Could be any of those. I've heard some pretty noisy injectors before.

Agreed, 3100 injectors are loud. Tuned port V8s seem to be the loudest ive ever heard though. Didn't believe injectors were that noisy until i put a stethoscope on one several years back.

i cant tell if its an injector or a lifter tap, on mine sound seams to come from bolth rail and valve cover.

Ford Guy says to we " keeping up with that General Maintenance as you drive a gm?' I say to him well when you found on road dead tomorrow, I'll be in the next province.

its probably an injector... they can be REAL loud... your best bet is to place your finger tip on the injectors... you'll feel it... or use a scope if you trust your ears... I use fingers and ears combined
