Lawsuit Details

The Settlement will reimburse Dexcool repairs ranging from $50 to $800.

Who qualifies? Owners of many 1995 - 2004 Chevy, Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, or GMC vehicles that needed gasket or sludge repairs. However, the repair must have been done within the first 7 years or 150,000 miles. And you will need your reciepts.

So if your covered up to 2004 what happened after 2004? Did they re formulate? I don't think GM changed anything because the cars they used them in still have the same engine. The 4.3L for example has been un touched in design since 1996 and it is still used today. It was one of the worst engines for sludge buildup but did not suffer from intake gasket problems like the 3X00 motors.

all they did was add the metal tabs so the guy putting it on wouldnt crush the shit out of the gasket but its still a plastic gasket which will fatigue over time.

my lst one with the metal tabs lasted a whole whopping 10k miles before it went south and took the engine with it. and that was with generous amounts of loc-tite.

There are revised injectors but the later trucks already have them. There is no true MPFI replacement with fuel rails and injectors.

The gaskets fail exactly the same on 4.3, but these intakes have a lot, i mean a lot less torque on them than the 3x00. If you ever do replace the LIM gaskets on the 4.3, don't spray any sort of parts cleaner IE brake clean, carb spray, etc into UIM. It messes up the poppet valves and you have to end up replacing the entire unit with the new system, which is a lot better. Also, follow the torque procedure exactly, if you don't it screws up the crank bearings (i know, it sounds impossible but it does.) Most people blame it on the coolant eating the bearings, but there are bulletins explaining that when you don't follow the procedure it causes bearing failure from shifting of the block.

If you really want keep up on your S-10, take the vacuum booster hose out of the UIM and look inside with a flashlight, if it's clean that means your fpr is leaking, and then again, i'm pretty sure you have to replace the entire system since it's part of the "spider".

Back on to topic.. I don't know why you guys hate dexcool so much... Yeah, our LIM fail, but you're blaming it on the coolant? Yes, it "sludges", but that's what it was designed to do, not to clog ports, but to put a coating over all the aluminum parts so they wouldn't corrode. As long as you flush out your system every 30kish, you'll be fine... I've opened up 3100s that used dexcool, and used green. The ones that used green the LIM was corroding away so the gasket had nothing to seal against. The ones with dex, the gaskets cracked. The other reason they use dexcool because it doesn't let current pass through it (at least that's what they tried to tell us at a training). But don't get mad, that's just my opinion on dexcool, like everyone has their opinion. I like it, because i've seen corrosion on SBC aluminum intakes that builds up when you use green (and never change it). I've seen the sludge from the dex, but it was a lot cheaper to throw the sludged parts in the parts washer than it was to replace the aluminum intakes.
