    2.8 crank swap

    I bought 2.8 V6 and TH700 from 88 Jimmy. Crank was dead.
Crank castingnumber is 526 (internal balanced) and no weights in flexplate.

Can I use Eagle 817 crank, if I change the flexplate for exbalanced model?
    If balancing lies on flexplate...

    Thanks, Timo

Find a used crank. External balance cranks suck and are harder and more expensive to balance. They also will not work with a 1 piece main seal.

      Thanks for the answer.
      Description is quite optimistic...

I spotted 3.1 Firebird engine from local forum in a price of crankrebuild
Welding one crankjournal and finishing nine others, 380€ in here Finland.

Yea that fits a 1 piece seal application. Do you have any sources of used parts? Your Trooper can use any engine from any 2.8L trooper or 3.1L rodeo or pup. Also any GM FWD cars with a 2.8L/3.1L/3100/3400 can be a source for used parts.

I think 2.8 and 3.1 is "for america only". All older Troopers are here in 2.3TD or 2.8TD powerplants, maybe some newer 2.6 gas models. My engine and trans are from 88 Jimmy, hope it fits

I spotted Beratta engine with DIS and cracked block, crank said to be good, I buy crank for the spares.
But my 2.8 block needs reboring..

So, im gonna use 91 3.1 from firebird, with 2.8 TBI.

Why would they make an external balance crank 80-88,weren't 88's internal?

Maybe cheaper to make? I dont know their marketing strategies..

As seen on Internet, and its true 88 was the year of change to internal balance, in 2.8 engines, casting 526 and some other(s). Internally balanced crank has DIS reluctor or some sort of ring ( for RWD cars of that area, they usually used distributors)
