    3100 engine problem

    Im needing help with an issue, I ported my intakes and replaced my head and intake gaskets. But after 2 weeks ma malibu started running too lean, theft system comes on, and when turning left or right the engine dies and shuts off. Took it to get the codes checked and shows a misfire and catalytic converter failure. Sometimes it runs fine, sometimes it runs lean or rough and sputters and acceleration is horribly affected. The car is lightly modified, stage3 with 3" intake, 2 1/4" exhaust pipping, ported intakes, 8.8mm racing spark plug wires, with e3 plugs. Can anyone gie me any tips on how to fix this issue.

    Although it sounds like the fuel pump, they generally don't go bad while the car is down for cylinderhead work but I'd check the fuel pressure anyway. More pressing though would be to check and make sure you reconnected and tightened your ground wires to the head as it will cause a lean condition due to poor current flow. I ruined an engine that way from the severe detonation that occured under boost.

      Did you make sure you ain't burning your crank sensor harness on a manifold or something like that?

        thats a good idea but it had been runnin lean since i started modifying it before i had the intakes ported and upgraded to e3 spark plug... but ive been doing research and found out many who have bought these plugs noticed running lean condition, poor gas mileage and hesitation, could the plugs be a helping factor to my car running lean

          every now and then i smell something burning but ive have checked many times but find nothing burned

            Yes, get rid of those plugs and use regular AC Delco platinum plugs, and see how it runs then.

              i was thinkin since i allowed more more air in to the engine, dont i have to up the fuel pressure to match the amount of air it is now takin in?... or could i just swap some injectors from a 3800 supercharged to my ported 3100

                You haven't increased the air into the engine enough that the PCM isn't going to be able to adjust for it. And unless you have a way to program the PCM for a different set of injectors, don't install them, as you will just be making matters worse.

                  it runs really lean, it more often than rearly dies from nowhere, starts right up again but it will run like crap untill i rev the hell out of it then it kinda stabalizes and then goes back to bean really lean, i know this beause of my air/fuel ratio gauge goes lean 90% of the time the other 10% is when i floor it and even then it runs like crap,wut can i do to make it runs right, evryone tells get bigger injectors or get a racing fuel pressure regulator or bigger fuel pump or a 02 wideband and a afc... any good suggestions on this problem

                    i forgot to mention its wasting gas like crazy my gas mileage is reduced by half

                      Running lean, yet wasting gas? Those don't usually go together. Oh, and if you just have a narrow band AFR gauge, its all but worthless on an EFI system, since the PCM is constantly adjusting fueling based on engine requirements.

                            so o2 sensor, fuel filter, clogged up converter r all possible issues that can affect this whole engine screw up
