    Torque converter.

    Do I need to put any trans fluid in the tc before I put it on?

    It certainly won't hurt anything. I've never put a dry one in before. Since it drives the pump and parts inside it rotate, it's probably a good idea to fill it half way so 1) it doesn't spill back out on you when you hang it on the input shaft and 2) it's not a dry start metal on metal deal on the first startup.
