what head gasket set do i need?

I have a burned valve on #3...I came across a set of heads for free, they're not warped and came with a new set of valve seals, I just need to clean them up a bit.


The heads came off of a 2002 Grand Prix 3.1, my car and the rest of the engine is a 96. block/intake etc


What part number head gasket set do I need? I'll be buying them from RockAuto.

I'm just not really sure what determines which gaskets to use - the head gaskets themselves are the same but I think the bigger intake ports are what changed things, I could be wrong though.

You will want the lower intake gaskets to match the year of the heads, but the upper will have to match the intake. The head gasket and bolts should match the block.

so head/lower intake gaskets for a 2002, plenum gaskets for a 96? am i reading that correctly?

head gaskets and bolts are the same. The lower intake gasket that you want are the 02, but if you have the 96 upper you will need a gasket to match that.
