    3.2 into a 1983 F-body question

    HI, I'm new here and was wondering if someone might be able to tell me what's involved in putting a 3.2 from a 1994 'bird into a 1983 'bird. I have a chance to buy one, and my 1983 V6 is "all blowed up."

      Not necessarily. I like the f.i. better. Bottom line tho' is I need an engine for the '83 and this '94 is available cheap.....

        I would say it would be much easier and cheaper to stay carb, but FI would be worth the trouble. If you can get the harness from the donor car, you can use it, but not sure what to about the VSS and electronic tranny controls (if the donor car is auto).

          My '83 is a five speed.......and will stay a five speed. (!)
          Which brings me to another question - Crank regisiter the same?

            The whole assembly should bolt right in. You should even be able to use your original accessories and brackets up front if the water pump is the same style. If not, just use the timing cover, pump, brackets, etc. from a '87-up f-body. Exhaust will bolt up fine, it will just be a matter of getting the FI to run, but I'm definitely not the best person to give that advice

                It will bolt up, but it needs to be neutral balanced. Starting in '87 or '88, they all were.

                  Hi there!

                  '83 -- is that a cable clutch or hydraulic? If I remember right, it's got a cable clutch.

                  The '94 engine does not have the boss cast in the block for the clutch cross-shaft, so if your car has a cable clutch, you'll need to convert to a hydraulic clutch to keep the 5-speed.
