    2.8 performance

    Alright I am new to the 60 degree world but I just got a 2.8 out of a s-10 or something like that. When I get a chance I will get you all the info on the motor. I am planing on putting this motor into a 1968 MGBGT. I am wondering if anybody really knows of any fairly easy horsepower gains that I can get. I have found a cam, intake, carb, headers, heads and like a 3.1 conversion kit. What I am kinda looking for is a fuel injection conversion kit, or wether the 3.1 mpfi will swap over or the 3.4 spfi will swap. Is there a company that makes a superchager that will work on that motor or like a turbo. Any info would be great. Thanks

    The 86 up 2.8 has bigger valves,edelbrock has a 4 bbl. intake[exspensive] for the Holley 390. You can use the 2.8 tbi or upgrade to a 4.3 tbi with 2.8 injectors if you bore the manifold,also the camaro/firebird 2.8 mpfi w/ecm can be used. A cam in the 260-272 range will work good. A turbo can be used but fab work will be have to be done.

      if you want to go with efi, i would asy do a complete build up. use the 2.8l block, grab a 3.1l crank (this will give you a 3.1l), use 3100 pistons, 3400 heads and intake. the 3400 heads give a lot better potential than the older 2.8 stuff, the only draw back is you cannot run a carb with them (if you count that as a drawback). being they were factory efi, everything is avalible. id run an aftermarket computer to allow proper tuning.

        dont the 3100 pistons have a different compression height, making them stick out of the bore a wee bit? if so wouldnt there be a risk that they would hit the heads?

        also you'd lose compression too

          they wouldn't hit the heads if the propper gasket was used.. but last time i checked the 3100 pistons didn't pop out... just the 3400's

          the 3100 pistons would give him like 9.5:1 or so...


          i'd personally run the 2.8 bottom end he has, just bolt on the 3400 top end. should get like 10.5:1-11:1 compression and deal out plenty of flow...

          a nice cam would help it out alot as well.

            actualy gen 1 pistons with gen 2 or 3 heads yeilds 12-12.5:1. thats a little high for pump gas.

                i used the CR calculator last week and got in the 11's with gen1 3.1 pistons and aluminium heads...

                    The 2.8 isn't fuel injected so how can i use the 2.8 injectors
