Yes, you can, although you have to narrow the big end in order to fit 2 on a journal. If you keep the same length rods (5.7"), then no, displacement stays the same.

Rod length doesn't affect displacement anyway..

You're right. I was thinking stroke with the change in rod length. But the storke will be the same even with a different rod length.

Change in rod length = change in compression ratio.

Its the only alternative to getting custom made rods. They can be had for cheap and a 4340 forged rod will be stronger than a stock one. As said before, they will need to be narrowed, and the wrist pin size is different as well.

advantage is ability to find much stronger rods and decent prices.

how about the bearings? if the big end has to be machined would i use the 3.4 bearings? or are the oil spouts in a different spot?

before picture and after picture of machining. stock bearings will work.

Exactly Correct... And here is a nice "Reason Why..." sort of article on the broader subject...

If you go this route, have your SBC bearings narrowed also. I got SBC 6" H beam in my 3.4 and that's what we did to the bearing for proper fitment.

Or you have to have the anti-rotation tangs machined into the rods and caps and use the 60* bearings.

factory bearings will work. theres a slight offset, but according to my machinist, its not the first time seeing it, and it will not be an issue. ill find out for sure though
