Intake manifold cleaning

Hey guys, happy new year first of all.

I am in the process of cleaning my 3400 intake mani's and I cant seem to get all that nasty egr sludge off of the intakes. They spent about 4-5 hrs in a solvent bath earlier today and im sandblasting them tomorrow.

Suggestions on how to thoroughly clean the insides?

Formula 88. Lowes sells it for ~$5/gallon. I bought a storage tote big enough to put a set of heads or an intake in to soak stuff in it. Formula 88 rocks, hands down. I'm glad Forced found it- that stuff removes carbon from runners ect. like you wouldn't believe. Just let the intake soak in it for a day or 2 and it should be good to go.

Ya think 1 gal is enuff for the pistons and intakes?

Only downside is it's expensive. You will want enough to completely submerge your parts. I would recommend that for someone who does a lot of parts washing.

Used coolant woks too, that's usually free after a coolant flush

I've never heard of using coolant. Too bad I absolutely hate coolant like no other automotive liquid on earth.

It has the same reactive chemical that Formula88 does haha. That's why your hands feel oily after being in the 88.

glycol monbutyl ether is Formula 88 and coolant is ethylene glycol

Gunk brand Gel Degreaser in a spray can if the parts are above freezing temp, you spray on, and since its a gel, it stays where you spray it. let it soak for 10 - 15 mins and a pressure washer takes almost everything away, what was left inside my intake was stripped away with wheel cleaning acid. lol was available and i pressure washed the crap out of it. (mind you i think this intake is sitting on a shelf somewhere in my shed or garage)

Mine don't feel oily after being in 88. 100 cheap blue nitrile gloves from Harbor Freight for $5 FTW! They rocked for packing and installing new wheel bearings on the passenger side of my truck before going some place important. No wheel bearing grease stained hands

I don't pack bearing by hand anymore, I can't stand having grease on them haha - I use a bearing packer - best $8 I ever spent (um $8 about 10yrs ago lol)...

Takes about 5 seconds to pack a bearing. Put it in the taper, put in the plunger and push till it oozes out. Just have to re-fill the container once in a while.

I've got the 2 cone style with a zerk on top. I used it 1 time and won't use it again, it wastes too much grease in my grease gun for my taste. Besides, for a true car guy packing bearings has a soothing effect
