Rochester 2bbl

I have the Chevy 2.8l 2v in my 85 cherokee. The Rochester carb has a lot (a LOT) of vacuum lines coming off of it. They can't all be necessary, can they? Are there any I can safely block off? Are there any popular and/or cheap mods for the Rochester carb?

The Chevy V6 in general? I'm mostly thinking of things I could do without spending over 100 dollars.

Unfortunately there is not much you can do to the venerable E2SE 'chester. Consult the underhood vacuum schematic and you will note that about half the vac. connections have to do with distributor advance and EGR control. Actually, I have found that the best results are to restore the system to it's proper operating condition, including testing and replacing the thermal vacuum switches. To do anything else will definitely bust your budget. Back in the day there used to be an adapter to allow use of a true two barrel instead of the E2SE's progressive throttle setup.

You can grind the stop for the secondary barrel, so the flap opens more. Air cleaner housing is restrictive, add another snorkel or flip the lid.

how would you add another snorkel?

To add another snorkel you need to go junkyard shopping. Find another air cleaner assembly w/ a similar snorkel. These are sometimes held on w/ spot welds, or cut a 1/2 around the snorkel & have someone weld it to the assembly. The important part is to mock up where you're gonna put it while the air cleaner is on the carb. You do need some metal cutting tools, like a cut off wheel & a hole saw. Pretty basic fab work.

I'd be lying if I said it made sense to put a 350 dollar carb on a free car, especially a Jeep with a low gear ratio...Any good carbs out there made to operate at extreme angles/rough rides? Marine carbs, maybe?

Do a junk-yard TBI conversion, that your best bet if your goin' off roadin'.

Holly and Edelbrock made some for rock crawlers, but they cost out the butt and then some I believe.

Marine carbs are mostly for fire safety. You don't want a fire when you can't see land

You can convert an Edelbrock Performer carb to a spring loaded needle and seat for off road use.
