hybrid running *video*

[Z2_4cams]

it's not rolling, but it's running :P

brake parts had to be donated to a friend, or she'd be rolling.

open manifolds rule!

[bonecrrusher]

haha nice

[GPXSS]

was that a newly rebuilt engine, or just a top end swap?

[v6h.o.]

its a full on rebuild/hybrid swap. only chris is taking his sweet time getting it drivable... :P summers almost over chris! get it driving and to the track!

[Z2_4cams]

full rebuild, 3100 pistons, moly rings, .018" milled off the heads, yadda yadda yadda

[DEI37]

Sounds good, especially for just having six cylinders. Looks like fun...can't wait to see action and dyno footage!

[GPXSS]

whoever cranked it certainly wasnt treating it like a newly rebuilt engine

[Z2_4cams]

pfft. it never went above 4500 rpm

[RidgeRunner]

But isn't the proper run-in for a new engine to run it at ~2000-2500 rpm constant speed for about 20min? To seat the lifters or something like that?

Yes. but he might have already done this?

[GPXSS]

Unless I had driven it for the 200 miles or so already, I wouldn't be revving it to 4500rpms.. probably wouldnt go much over 3500.

To each his own I guess, I've always just followed GM's recommended breakin procedures.

When I replaced *just* my cam, I did the constant 2k for 20 minutes and then never went over 3k until after I had driven it over 100 miles. Even then, I still barely got on it for almost 800 miles (had to go to the 60V6 meet in Ohio 2 days after the cam install).

I definately wouldn't be revving it very high either, there is no reason not to follow the break-in procedures. However, my dad bought his '02 GTP Brand new and it had like 60 miles on it when he got it. So he drove it home (another 15 miles) and put a CAI and 3.4" pulley on it right then. Then he beat the piss out of it. He said thats the "proper" way to break in a car. But, it runs pretty good now with 25k on it so it must not have been TOO bad on it. However, I would bet GM does their own type of break in on the engine before even letting it out of the plant, so thats kind of different.

I didn't think roller cams needed to be "broken in". The only thing to worry about should be seating the rings. But I agree, if it was my engine, I wouldn't be revving it to 4500 right after the first start up.
