Started on my shallow pan today.
The oil pump is a 3900 pump modified to have a bottom intake and external bypass.

I'm wondering the point of a shallow pan.2001 GLS 3400. F40 6 speed.

The oil pan will have internal baffeling with trap doors like road race pans, to keep the oil around the pickup, the pan capacity at 2" oil depth is around 7 quarts. I'm also going to run a crank scaper and a windage tray. Barnes oil pumps built a similar type pump for an internal dry sump that was used for many years by sprint car engine builders in the late 70's and early 80's.Comment

Reason for the shallow pan is ground clearance. This pan is going on a 3.1 Isuzu in a 1923 Track roadster and itsits low in the chassis.

It will have a dipstick, same as any other oil pan. It will have to be custom made to the correct length and marked with proper level when it has 6 quarts of oil in it.Comment
