Anyone know how well underdrive pullies work?

That's an interesting statement.... On these engines, the pulley is basically your harmonic balancer, therefore if it is replaced, it can't really damage it. There have been arguements that have stated that the UD pulleys are lighter and thus don't provide for the proper dampening of the engine, but I have yet to hear anyone in the 660 community have issues destroying their engines due to the UD pulley.Originally posted by BratokI remember reading somewhere that UD pulleys can damage your harmonic balancer...-Brad-

I have an ASP underdrive pulley on my Fiero. It works. Track times for people who have tested it usually show 1-2 tenths better 1/4 mile times. The only thing is, if your car is old or high mileage, you should check the alternator with a meter to make sure it's good. People believe the in car guage as being accurate when they're really only to give you an idea of what's going on. If the alt. is old it may be weakened and not showing much loss on the cars gauge but it will show up when you put on an underdrive pulley if it's weak. Better to check it first and replace if necassary rather than put on the pulley and find out the hard way. I replaced my alt. at the same time that I put on the pulley and have no charging problems.
I also have no heat issues either. Temp is cool as always.Activities Director

If the guy is wondering about UD pulley's, it probably for his car. Since its in the pushrod section, does it matter how the DOHC is setup? No. I mean, its good to hear that you haven't had any problems with it, but different engines react differently to mods. Since the DOHC has a seperate balancer, there is a very good chance that it will act different than the pushrod where the balancer is intergral.-Brad-

i know that this is the pushrod section... and their was a question asking does the underdrive hurt the balancer... and sence the pushrod underdrives are the balancer as well... i thought that somone might want to know what effect it has on a car with a seperate ballancer.... that's all1994 Cutlass Supreme Convertible 3.4 DOHC

All 660's have a neutral-balance front damper, this did not change in '88. The only difference is the crank counterweights and the flywheel/flexplate counterweights between the early and late engines.Originally posted by TheProfessorall 88 and later pushrod 660s are internally balanced
