    Nitrous gone wrong... now with pics..

    If some of you remember a while ago I fried my motor on nitrous.. I was running a custom chip made for an N/A application.. Well I ran lean and fried a piston.. I ripped the heads off and well I'll let the pics show you the damage..




    Rear bank was all right, but you can see some pitting in a couple of the pistons..



    yeah that exhaust valve is kinda fried... both heads are toast...



    the pics don't show it but there is quiet a bit of pitting in both heads..

    so where did the peice of piston go to?

      sorry about your luck.

      I am guessing you didnt' go to a dyno and check your a/f's with a wideband when you put the chip in?

      This probably could have been avoided.

        was it lean or did the chip advance the timing?.. gotta be careful with crack on a not stock or dyno tuned computer

              No I got to jumpy to test it out before hitting up the dyno.. I had origonaly done a base line run with my stock chip... Stock these cars run a perfect 11.9 - 12.1 a/f ratio at wot... All I gotta say is oops.. oh well.. I knew better but didn't follow my best judgment...

              It was a dry set up... 55 shot.. And the chip has the a/f ratio leaned out a tad and about 1 degree advanced timing..

                So all in all would you say the chip was the cause of the combustion! ack!

                  yup cause our buddy has the same engine with the same zex kit without a chip in his 94z and it responds to the nitrous very well

                            those vette pics are clearly a nitrous backfire, or a solonoid malfunction. ive seen cars blow the carbs 50' in the air from a solonoid failing and the car gets started with full nitrous.

                              i saw teh vid of that thing catching on fire. it was scary. i wonder with the new kits if their is a way to prevent crap like that.
