• Idea.. maybe?

Us gen3 guys can't really fit a double roller timing chain because of the spacing and cam snout.. In the past people have stacked up paper gaskets on the gen2 engines to make this possible but maybe this is an easier way?

"Waterjet Cut Timing Cover Spacer For Double Roller Timing Set. "

Now, if it's possible to modify a gen2/1 double roller set to work with the gen3 cam snout i'd be very interrested. Or maybe if there is another GM engine that uses a single bolt cam snout...

I have the parts to space the alt, crank pulley, and cover, but no AC. You will have to drill a hole for the dowel pin.

Here is a pic. I hope to know pricing soon so I can put them on the store for those that can make it all work.

who needs A/C? i haven't had that for like 5 years

what about the timing chain? or most importantly the cam gear.

iirc a while back we talked about drilling the center hole out slightly larger and cutting in a notch for the pin...

Maybe the photogallery has my pics for the double roller? Same as the 2.8, and I drilled holes for the dowel but it really needs to be cnc or something more accurate. hmm, and the oil gallery plugs have to be ground as well. Guess I need to break out my parts one more time:P

If we can make this work it would be sweet..

in a month or 2 i'll probably be pulling my 3500 out to toss on the stand and start inspecting for damage. I've got valve seals to replace at the least.. i'm most worried about the timing chain though.

I've heard the 318 seals are the same way.

Has anybody found another solution besides these?

the 2.2 ones are working very well for alot of people, they fit the stems just right..

who knows, i may have tapped them down a little too hard and opened up the seal a little at the stem.

we'll find out when i pull it out...

the valve springs were moving around on the SBC seats, caught the 2.2 seals and pulled them off the stems. I'm now using stock Gen3 seats/seals with my comp springs, they work flawlessly.

I guess I'm naive to the necessity, I don't get why you need such a big timing chain. If you're running a wild cam and really stiff springs, I don't get why that would be any harder to turn that stock stuff because the preload and postload resistance should still even out. And if oil is lubricating everything, there shouldn't be any increased friction. I've never considered upgrading the timing chain in the DOHC, it just doesn't seem like a failure point.
I may own a GTO now, but I'm still a 60V6er at heart.
