CAI or cold air intake???

I hacked off about half of mine. I went from mounting point to mounting point, then strait up the sides and just under the sealing flange for the filter element, and that whole front piece came off which is why I said it probably still gets some of the heat from the compartment. I should snap a pic of it one day....

so your airbox consists of the top lid and just enough of the bottom to keep the filter from falling out? damn, and i thought i overdid it...

It's called a FWCAI so most people don't get the misconception of the infamous WAI mounted above the x-over &/or next to the battery pointing at the nice hot radiator.

over on w-body we just say FWI... Fenderwell intake.

CAIs are pretty close to the same thing, just anywhere that draws colder air and isn't in the fender

WAIs are essentially the factory location for the airbox

HAIs are pretty much a filter on the TB, with just enough tubing to mount the IAT/MAF if equipped.

It's roughly half of the bottom end that is left. But I did leave the flange in place to hold the filter so it won't fall out and still makes a seal.

In my car there is space behind the splash guard between the inner fender/body. Depends on the car.

No modifications there. There is empty room behind the splash shield.


When I do mine I will use a different shaped filter, and mount it a little higher than you see in that pic, to keep it cleaner and out of water.

the site isnt working on my end, they must sell the intakes? what about those of us that have the 3.4L dohc? I did get a chance on another computer to check out the pics last night and saw a few flaws.. For one the alt. power source is in the way, and two the fuse block that sits there on the is also in the way I own a 94 cutlass supreme 2dr...
