i ahve 2 sets of hydrolic lifters, one set the center move in freely the other set they move hardly at all, some move a little and some not at all, what are they supposed to act like ?

There is a spring in there and there should be a checkball (maybe not on our stock lifter?). They fill with oil and the oil pressure keeps them somewhat solid.

Well, it still matters when they are pumped with oil. They shouldnt move very much if at all without any oil pressure on them. At idle, they will pump up a lot, and at WOT they will probably have a bit more give than you can get away with. Its a performance issue as well as maintenance, but if they aren't collapsed, they aren't dead (gotta run em to know if they are collapsed though).Ben

GM posted a fix for lifter noise in the form of a technical service bulletin. It requires some drilling on the cams under the end covers, but the TSB improves oil flow the the "hat" style lifters our cars use. The service kit is suppose to be availible from GM. I will check this week and see if the kits can still be ordered.\"Experimentation\" the mark of a verteran weekend garage warrior
