HELP!!! does the start on a 92 z34 have a shim!??

no. I had an issue with a starter for a while and it was the power wire going to the starter. Just curious if you are asking because the starter will ping but not spin the flywheel? If so, check your wires. You shouldn't need to use a shim. In fact, I shimmed mine so many different ways trying to figure it out and then I noticed the real issue.

Ditto. Also DO NOT go with a local neighborhood shop on these starters. Go for a quality starter from a supplier instead. I tried 2 different shops around here and $100 later I still had an intermintent no start. A trip to Napa for a premium grade SOLVED the prob.Im sure someone will argue but this did work in my case. Got tired of my wife calling saying "my car wont start".

We went through 3 different brand starters in a week before just going for a new AC Delco Starter on my mom's Euro.

check your cables to the starter and the ground for the battery. Mine had a real hard time when I had a bad ground and a crappy solid metal bar for a connection point on the power side. Too much resistance in that setup.
