  • Timing belt issues... Again

Ok, I got my timing belt kit delivered this week, (got a great deal on Rockauto.com) and I'm stoked!!! I called my buddy who was supposed to help me with it. He's done a few of them in the past and was willing to help me out. Here's my issue- he doesn't have the cam lockdown tools. I've checked around and it appears no one makes them anymore. I saw Sappy's PDF on what they look like but that's not helping because I can't fab em and don't know anybody who does. Can anybody out there point me in the right direction? Oh and to make it worse, apparently there's a difference if you have a 91-93 0r a 94- whatever and I have the 92!! Trying to get this done.

Its bar stock with a hole drilled in it for a bolt. 8x1.25 probably for the bolt but my kit is at the shop so I can't verify. You also need the cam gear holder to remove the bolts. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kent-Moore-J...892987&vxp=mtr

WOW! Thanks. I bought that on ebay and will be making the locks tomorrow! I also found an old thread where you (or somebody) described how to make them. Man you saved me a HUGE head ache! My buddy's response originally was "well if it's a non interference motor, we'll give it a shot- it won't hurt..." That kinda scared me.

He is right as long as it doesn't let go at high rpm, lol. It isn't in design but can become interference at higher revs.

I saw a photo somewhere of a set of hold-downs made from old main bearing caps (just needed the hole drilled). A cheap, no flex option.
