Well, aside from ported parts for the top end, you can have custom pistons made, at least have the crank balanced, deburred, polished and shotpeened if you plan to do a lot to the motor, same with the rods for deburring, polish and shotpeen. It all depends on what you wanna spend and what you wanna do with the motor though. Some things are overkill for a basic rebuild and moderate performance upgrade.

              *shameless plug coming*

i have a 3.4 dohc shortblock that still has the rotating assy in it. u can have all that stuff done and still drive your car or i can pull, the crank, rods, and pistons and sell them to ya. but u might want the block too. u can overbore it for a little more displacement is ya have the $$$ to burn

Im thinking for the first part of a rebuild I want some kind of kit like the Fel-pro gaskets for $118, but what about the kit from newengineparts.com for $450 that includes pistons, rings, bearings, and you can oversize, what extra work needs to be done for install of oversize pistons and rings.
                Is it worth it?

I personaly don't think it's worth going oversize. If you think about it you are weakening the cylinder walls by boring them out.
