  • 94-95 Chips

Ok, so ive been tuning this car for a couple weeks now, only to learn the MAF screen is off. No wonder it was way off. Put a screened maf on it and the stock chip was much better off. So anyway, I need to know if people want me to spend time tuning with the screen? Its easy to pop off and my chip will make it work better than stock with the screen.

So yeah, what do you guys think? Should I continue with the screen off and just sell the chips with that mod as a requirement? A lot of performance guys do this anyway so I figure its feasible. Ill need someone to come to the shop so I can check the chip in their car with the screen off to make sure they are the same but it should be.

If you can do a good job tuning it without the screen. Do it.

Because I don't even know where mine is. Garbage?

Welll, thats all done minus performance tuning. Im hoping to hear the results of chris's test chip soon since he has the same setup in his grand prix.

I would just do it without the screen. People who buy the chip are usually into somewhat modifying there car. I would just include instructions with the chip just in case they do not know how to remove the screen.

Might be a bit of a bother, and I don't know how emissions will be affected without the screen. So...Why not do it both ways? Seems logical to me. Could be a market for both chips.

Time involved is the main factor. Ill have to see how long this buick will be here. If I have today and any time tomorrow between tuning another car and celebrating my birthday tomorrow night (for sunday, cause sundays aren't party nights). I want to get this thing timed different so I can tune it that way. That is where screen vs no screen might both take more than half the time I have left with the car. That and I have other things I need to start doing after next week anyway.

Chris is going back to the dyno after we sort some stuff out, like the shift points and fueling. Anyway, stock with screen: 169.6 hp. WIth my chip, 168.5. Looks like stock fueling was fine, though it is programmed as lean. Ill mess with that and see what I can do, he had the wide band hooked up so we have the AF ratios at least now. Stock was about 12-12.7:1 though throughout the run though so right now, aside from drivability, limiters, and EGR, don't expect much out of a chip on a bone stock motor. However, no screen with my chip turned 175.9hp and it was way too rich so we are going to mess with that a little. I am waiting to hear some track results now on the 6/6 timing with stock chip and my tuned chip, with screen installed.

I have the 15 shift tables mapped now so once I figure out what they all are, the shift points will be modified.

                    Thats all for now.

This is the first run after getting the car back from Ben, with the new chip and the -6+6 timing. Picked up a half second over my last run. Didn't get to try the stock chip due to weather, will have those results this coming Thursday. The high end increased greatly. A little tuning on the shift points and it may hit 90 mph. Remember, this is a heavy assed, fully equipped W-Body, all stock internals. I am most impressed so far. Bad scan...sue me.. 15.57 @ 88.77

Id like to see how that does if I put the Power Enrichment back to stock. Might be a little faster now that I know the results on a stock chip setup with my PE table. Id love to see it dynoed stock chip and then tuned with mine. Im betting on the cam timing tuned chip to actually make a nice difference over stock.

Ben, whats the chances of tuning a manual chip? I know thats really difficult, but it would help me out and possibly other people as well if they would like the SFI+MAF+manual tranny.

Not a problem. Id need a car to do it but yeah, I think I can manage it. After talking to brian, it seems the computer just needs to know what gear its in since there are no values for them in this code unlike 91-93. Also throttle follower, decel, and iac values will need to be redone.
