Anyone try cleaning the O2 sensor with any success? I'm talking about heating and quenching the tip, to dislodge carbon. I'm working on a 99 Blazer, the thing has 4 of these. Not ready to put $200 plus into O2 sensors. Several websites say it works....sometimes. ECM readout says this is the problem, but can't identify which one.

i've never heard of good results from cleaning an O2, then again, it was always described as using brushes to clean them, so i can't say for certain if heating/quenching will have a good or disasterous effect... but if they're potentially junk anyway, what have you got to lose?1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

What exactly does your "ECM readout" say? Usually, if a sensor is going to recover, a good 4-6 hour highway drive will do it . . . . . providing the engine is running well and not sickly.
If you ain't rock and roll, you must be driving a Honda

i've actually heard there is some merit to this(and for contaminated cats as well), depending on what is causing the contamination. if you can get the EGTs to the point of melting the contaminant, it melts and blows out.Originally posted by 86FieroSEv6 View PostWhat exactly does your "ECM readout" say?
