  • Fleenor's harness, Forced style

I knew fleenor was putting this in his buggy, so everything has fresh loom and completely wrapped in friction tape. It started life as a '95 Camaro harness (in extremely poor shape I might add) and is now ready to go in his 3.4/3500 hybrid-powered rock climber and controlled with a 727 ECM...

Nice! What does that kind of tape run you and where do you buy it at?

He got a good deal because this is the prototype He told me he is not so good with the wiring, so everything was labeled and got a nice loom just for the guages, one for the relay bank and one for the fuse box. I am going to put a little extra loom and the very small pce of friction tape in the package in case the wires need to be extended. The OBDI port also had to be wired in since the harness was from a 95.

I guess the price would have to depend on what year the hybrid harness consisted of, but a job like this should have been at least $300 plus the cores, and the core was so bad - ended up using another injector harness section and had to repair several wires in the loom that were spliced poorly, had to be soldered, shrink wrapped, and tested for continuity/resistance.

Any auto store. It's expensive though $5 for a small roll. If I do another, definitely will order bulk.

Crazy, I've never seen the stuff. Then again, I don't tend to buy electrical stuff there besides fuses, since I like the way that expensive Scotch brand electrical tape does. I can't stand the cheap stuff... Too thin, it doesn't do good when you work with it in cold climates (not that you know anything about that ). I normally spend ~$3 a roll on black electrical tape, so friction tape wouldn't be a huge jump for me, but then again, I don't use a butt-load (Firefox corrected word, rofl!) of electrical tape either.

Took 7 rolls or so to wrap the entire harness, have to count the packages on the floor of the patio lol. I know what you mean, too. Wire loom at Home Depot is cheap, but really thin - same with the friction tape. So to really get a good layer on there, it takes 2x as much of the cheap stuff.

The shop is getting a pegboard station that will be good for laying out wiring.

I used to work at Shasta Industries many years ago doing RVs. They are under the Coachmen nameplate now. But anyways, yeah, that's how they did their wiring harnesses. They had a huge pegboard about 20 feet long and 6 feet tall with pegs that were about every square foot.

I was at Lowe's today looking for electrical tape today, and I found they had friction tape for $1.47 or something like that a roll. The stuff is half the cost of regular electrical tape!

Hmm I might look into the friction tape. Anything that doesn't turn into a greasy mess in the heat is better!! I do have some 3M white electrical tape, but not sure if it's rated for heat.. I think I've even had the 3M stuff turn to grease with age though.

That's one thing I absolutely hate about using electrical tapes under the hood... Even in the passenger compartment, sitting for years that stuff gets nasty gooey gross and gets over everything when you try to work with it...

I use this stuff a lot for wire harnesses in slot machines, it's designed to work well in hot areas. it also works well for it's intended purpose..

                            expensive stuff though.
