I currently have a 3.1 in my Jeep Cherokee using the original ECU from the 91' Camaro donor car. I plan on swapping in a 3400 once I have the chassis side of this build more roadworthy, but I'd also like to be able to control the 3.1 for the time being. I originally considered a MicroSquirt, but it lacks native support for the stepper motor IAC which would be fine because there's a 60 dollar adapter, but it also doesn't support sequential fuel injection which I'd like to use once I go to the 3400. I'm leaning towards a MegaSquirt MS3 but I'd rather not spend that much on an overkill ECU. Any suggestions?

MS3X will do full sequential but its not quite right as far as the 7x using SFI goes. I believe you have to tell it every cylinder is 1 cylinder off. I need to get some 60-2 external triggers made for doing this kind of a setup because its properly done in the computer. The 7x can work, don't get me wrong, but its HEI based and it would take people that don't post on this forum to probably work through it. Its a LOT easier to keep it MPFI using an MS2 or MS3 and keeping the stock coil pack setup. With the MS3x, I think it might be easier to use the newer LZ engine coil packs because of how they are wired (as actual coil packs, not the module taking an HEI type signal).Ben
