Should post that in the gallery under comparisons. I can get any of those cams for regrind cores. That one in particular was for a 99 grand am. They are all compatible with the matching sensor from what I have been told.

I thought the 3500 one was the most interresting...

That design actually came out in 03 and has been used on all the 3x00 engines since then.

Unfort, the pics currently don't work. But, I need to work on redoing that entire article anyway.

I've got a question, I've read that the best way to go with swapping a SFI 3100 for a 3400 SFI say, is to use the cam sensor with whatever year engine.

          Example, 94 3100- swapped to 04 3400, you use a 04 cam sensor...

But others keep their old one, which isn't designed for the new cam notch, so whats the deal? Won't it throw a code and throw off fuel injection timing?

No. We had a huge discussion about this over on GAGT when Milzy first came out with his cam and it only had the 03+ trigger on it. The sensors all pick up a leading (or trailing?) edge of the tirgger and the convert the signal to a square wave for the ECM. If you look at each of the triggers between the years, they all start at the exact same spot. Therefore the sensor is seeing a change in the trigger and it creates its square wave from that.

so what is the point in changing the design at all, when they could have left it the same and liekly saved money and time, rather than design a new trigger?

Not that this affects me, i can use any ol' 96+ 3x00 cam, since i wont be using the cam sensor, just wondering.....

I think its for better resolution at high RPM. But I have nothing to confirm it. It could also be a supplier problem causing a design change.

So you use the sensor that goes with your ECM year, not with the cam?

I'm running an 03 3400 with the original 03 sensor on a 94 PCM with no issues. Use the sensor for the motor, because each sensor converts the signal internally and sends out the exact same signal to the PCM.

Hmm, well this guy had an issue with his but he was using an 03 cam with an 00-02 sensor (milzy said to use that one?) but he ended up using one for 96 I think. I thought it was sensor to cam should be the same but then after reading that thread I thought maybe it was sensor to ecm instead.

I spliced in a 05 sensor for my friends 99 grand am with a 05 motor and he has had no issues yet. I will also be using a 05 sensor on my new motor when it goes it.

That right there proves Mike's brilliance... Why in the hell would you install an 00-02 cam sensor in an 03 engine running on a 95 PCM?!? I still think the sensor should be mated with the cam (I'm almost positive that is how mine is... maybe I can check my old block to see if the sensor is still in there), because the output of the sensor will always be a generated square wave feeding to the PCM

Cant get more f-ed up than that and I have no cam code.
