  • 3500 LZE engine - VVT lock

    Good afternoon, all.
I've heard great things about the LZE engine and swapping it into a fiero.
I bought a wrecked 2011 Impala and yanked the motor out... i wanted to run a manual transmission.

    1) found that the original ECU cannot be programmed to take out the auto as it never came with a manual.
    2) was going to hook up microsquirt as i'm looking for extremely minimal / experimental fun toy - but microsquirt cannot control constant VVT's

with both of those, i'm in an odd spot... i can either lock the VVT and run microsquirt, i can keep the VVT and spend way more and get an MS3.

    So my questions are
    1) is there a kit out there to lock the VVT?
    2) is there another ECU that i can run on this engine?
    3) any extras i'm not thinking of?

We delete the VVT and use a performance cam. I don't like the OEM computers but if you want VVT and a stock cam, then maybe? It can certainly run as a manual even if there isn't an option in the computer. Just delete all the auto trans stuff. Personally, I would do an MS3x if I was going to use a megasquirt. Full SFI to redline might happen on the stock 2011 computer, but it wasn't the case in the 05 and older OBD2 computers.
