My first GM product! :)

Well, after a long 10-year experience with Fords, I have gotten my first GM product. Picked it up cheap, and drove it an hour home. Here's my problem with it. I need to know what the firing order is on the coil packs, not on the engine itself. I know the firing order is 123456, and I know the numbers of each cylinder, but I want to make sure each wire is on the right plug on the coil pack side. Could someone help me out, please? Thanks.

It was AllData actually. Its from a 3100, hence the reason the coils are on the top of the engine. But I figured it would be setup the same on the 3.1Ls mounted on the front of the engine. Am I wrong? If so, lemme know and I'll see if I can't edit the drawing specifically for a 3.1L.

What engine/tranny does that have? IF it has the 3.1 5-speed, it should be pretty quick!

Actually, it has the 2.8 V6 automatic. Also, I tried the coil packs right before work, and now it won't start at all. I'm guessing the guy had them on right after all. Probably a clogged cat or something. It does need new exhaust anyway. Could someone tell me for sure what the order is for the coil packs from left to right??? I need to at least get this thing running by tomorrow if possible. Thanks.

Which way to the packs face? It might be that you just need to flip that drawing over basically... Jon and I were having this discussion earlier. So it might be

1-4 6-3 2-5

Hopefully someone with a 2.8/3.1 can answer this question...

Yeah, I was kinda thinking the same thing about it being backwards. I didn't have time to try it before work tonight, though. I plan on getting home and getting it switched over and HOPING it runs again. If I'm lucky, he really did have a couple wires backwards on the coil packs, and it'll run good. But with the way my luck went yesterday, I don't expect it to change now. LOL If someone has an answer, please post!!! I'll be your best friend!

I just looked at mine, 1-4-6-3-2-5 is how it is.

Yes, the rear bank is still 1 3 6.

I GOT IT!!! I'm so proud of myself. LOL The car is running again, and I'll be taking it to work with me tonight to show it off. Also, it's still running rough, so I tapped the cat with a small hammer quite a few times to see if it would help even it out, but it didn't work. So I dumped some fuel injector cleaner in it, which helped a LITTLE, but not alot. I guess this coming weekend (after payday) I'll be getting a fuel filter, oil, oil filter, and PCV valve to do the rest of the tune-up the guy didn't do. Could anyone tell me what the voltage is supposed to be on the TPS, and how to adjust timing on these? Thanks.

You don't adjust timing. It's done entirely by computer.

The TPS should be (if I remember correctly) .5v at idle, 5v at WOT.

Ahh, ok. Thanks. So I just turn the key on, get the multimeter set up, and test it that way. Then I manually open the throttle up all the way and test. Do I have that right? Sorry, I'm not much with electrical, but I want to get this running right. I don't want this to be a nightmare, I want it to be a fun car. Especially since it's my first GM.
