When is it time to give up on beefing up your engine after the miles get to high.My car has 86,000 miles or 140,000 kilometers what should the compression be in the cylinders. And when is it time to get a new engine or bore cylinders? Thanks

120,000????? INFANT!!!!! I had 313,368 miles when I pulled out my 2.8L. I the only reason that I went ahead and pulled it was because I had finished building my 3100 MPFI, and my TRANSMISSION went. My car had NEVER went through a re-build, and the only custom stuff that I did to the engine was all done about 5,000 miles BEFORE I pulled the engine.

I got 320,000 now, and I am enjoying EVERY MILE I put on it!!!!!

I checked my carfax for the hell of it and I did 40,000 miles between march '01 and march '02....so another 6 years of driving like I do and I'm better off with a Diesel.

At that time I was living further east in LI and my commute to school was 100 miles round trip@ 4 days a week, work was 40 miles round trip, then all the other trips I took (friends, girlfriend, family, upstate NY) I was minimum 20 miles away from everything I needed

Damn, so you basically drove all over LI! I just ran my carfax and nothing came up. Infact, the last mileage it shows is when I bought it in early 2000. Ive put less than 30,000 on it since then.

Back on topic.......sorta...........You can put some serious miles on these motors before in depth maintence is needed. Just do regualr oil changes and regular maintenence, they'll pretty much last forever

My car (Z34, 5 Speed DOHC) has 170,100 (on the frikkin' dot) and it has never been rebuilt. The only problems I'm having are with the tranny (clutch and synchros).

I wouldn't ever give up on my engine until it gave up on me. I've put too much love and care into it.
