No hard feelings... So anyway you gotta explain the situation in more detail.
What are you working with and what are your goals?
You said you have a 96 3.4L (I dont know if you mean 3400) but it already has the best of everything. So I am wondering why you would be asking about iron heads.
Or is the scenerio that you really have a 3.4L from a Camaro and wanted to know how good you can make the iron heads or if it was possible to install 3400 heads?
Nope its not from a 1996 if its a 3.4L. 3.4L's ended in 1995. It has iron heads and a flat tappet cam. Made 160hp and 180lbs of torque. SFI fuel injection and a distributorless ignition.
On the plus side iron heads are great for boost.
Oh and if the car is indeed a 1996 then it only came with the 3800.
You would want to use a FWD 3400 for max performance, but the starter is gonna get in your way. Someone on here does have teh 3.4 bottom end with the gen 3 aluminum top end. You wouldn't be able to use your custom intake though with aluminum heads since they are based off the iron heads (I assume). I don't see him online now, but ill show him this thread when I do.

actually.....
the 3.4 in 1993-1995 in the RWD config made 160 hp @ 4500 rpm / 200 tq @ 3500 rpm! :-p so nuts to you.
my car. currently running. im workign on getting more stuff out of it. anyway, if you wanna go max hp on a 3.4 - the hyd. roller cam would help a lot more, but if you can swing it, a solid flat tappet cam would work almost as good, just would require more maintenance.
anyway, all in all it would require a lot more. bigger injectors, headers, etc etc. my setup got me from 142/185 rwhp/rwtq up to 170/207 (which for all of you ppl estimating crank power, with "normal" (yes i know there are variables involved) looses - thats around 200 / 245)
anyhow. ppl in this thread need to chill! -- the 3.4L from the camaro/firebird can be adapted for the aluminum heads. NO THEY DO NOT COME WITH THEM. all 3.4L motors from 93-95 came with cast iron heads with a really short and shitty intake. i reccomend finding heads/intake on ebay and swapping. the whole thing when i did it ran me around 110.00 for both sides of the intake, a tb and a set of heads. the fuel rail was like 40-50 tho :-/ anyway. everything plugs inand works, nothing you cant do with what you've got.
check the link above, if you wanna see a bigger picture of the thumbnails (sorry i havent had time) -- right click the thumbnail and copy the full path, then paste into the address area of your window, and take out the ".th"
anyway, if you want any q's answered, feel free to look me up on IM - camwire.
happy modding.

I have never seen specs indicating 200lbs of torque from a Camaro engine. I have always seen 180. But if it is really 200 SWEET cuz thats the motor im using in my truck
And no one ever said AL heads and top end we not doable. They said he could do it just the compression would be sky high, so he would probabally want to change pistons to keep the octane requirements down.
These Gen III cylinder heads are used in late model V6/60 engines for improved performance. They feature an increase of .040" in intake valve diameter and a reshaped port for a flow improvement of 16.7% at 0.450" of valve lift. The exhaust port has been reshaped into a "D" port configuration for a flow improvement of 31.7% at 0.450" of valve lift.
what year and motor and vechile where these used on>? what are they made of?
