Custom cams for non roller blocks

I just got off the phone with Delta cams and as I said before they will do a custom cam for $55.00 w/ a core and $100.00 w/o a core. You only need to give them your specs for Valve lift, Duration and Lobe Separation Angle. Just to clarify This is for NON-roller cams...this IS for hydraulic flat tappet cams.

so basically I could send them my old cam, and read off the specs for the Crane H-272-2 and get a copy-cat Crane 272 for a quarter of the price as the real Crane??

Yes sir you are correct. You can go with ANY other cam WITHIN THE LIMITATIONS OF THE STOCK CAM.

With Delta, have them call you BEFORE they grind it to make sure the specs match up. my results were a bit different than i had wanted originally. I wish they would have called...

the lift was fine.. it was the duration that was a little more than i wanted...

Do you have valve reliefs notched in your pistons? Just wondering. I read that the max lift was something like .560, but I am afraid to go that high.

Wrong. You cannot get every cam grind out of a regrind. You cannot get every LSA you want nor every duration you want (ramp up rate). You are limited by your base lobe and what you have stock. You will probably have to adjust the timing with an adjustable timing setup.

Please get one done and compare before you go telling people that can do whatever they want with a regrind.

No problem, I just don't want people to think they can get any specs they want. The real limitation seems to be the centerline when you start going for different LSA and more lift. Seems even stock cams aren't dead on with their specs so you always have to check.

Do you have any measurements on the stock flat tappet cams to see how much there is to grind on the base lobe?

No...I have been trying to finish my nitrous system and just picked out the cam i want to copy. Comp cams 12-560-4
