For a diluted water/methanol mix, all of the people I know with turbo cars run with winshield washer fluid. It is an alchohol and water mix (I think ~10% alchohol) with~ 0.5% blue die for coloring. It is cheap, and readily available. It seems to do a good job of eliminating detonation with high boost, without the need for 100% alchohol.

For 100% methanol, buy some Heat gas line antifreeze. It only comes in the small bottles, but is available over the counter.

Zylene is a common racing additive for boosted cars. But if you are gonna be at the track VP racing will get you the fuel. I am not sure how you are gonna get it unless you goto the track.

"For 100% methanol, buy some Heat gas line antifreeze. It only comes in the small bottles, but is available over the counter. " Heet is available at Walmart in non-winter seasons for 25 cents per bottle. If the bottle is 16 ounces that is $2.00/Gal, that is cheap as heck.

I dunno about the fact that it is pure methanol though. if you want Ethanol, you can go in some states and buy pure grain alchohol. It will be less than $10/Gal. That is quite expensive though, you can probably find some for $5/Gal in the right place. Remember though, they make this stuff for you to drink, not your car so, it's more pricey unless you get some un-clean Ethanol.

And yes, there are some top racers that choose Ethanol over Methanol, they both have their pros/cons.

Make sure not to run Alchohol through Multec injectors or you will fry 'em.

Any machine shop that is any good uses pure Methanol to clean Plastic Injection molds and parts. They can tell you where and how to get it. I live close to Dayton, I know where we buy ours. I've heard that adding this will also make any car pass E Checks. I've never done it, but the theory is good.

#1 Don't use windshield washing fluid... ghetto and if you get a brand that doesn't use the same stuff as everyone else you are are in trouble
#2 Heet is basically isopropyl alcohol with other alcohols mixed in, you could use it but I wouldn't. Stick to methanol or ethanol.
#3 VP Racing has points of sale all over the place. You don't have to go the track. Call your closest distributor. http://www.vpracingfuels.com/
#4 "Zylene" is spelled "Xylene" and I wouldn't use it that either. It's burns really really slowly.

Take it from someone who has an alky kit on his car. (not in use right now)

You are confusing Heet (yellow bottle) with Iso Heet (red bottle). Heet (in the yellow bottle) is not "basically isopropyl alcohol with other alcohols mixed in". It is methanol with a corrosion inhibitor. The bottle says so, as does their website. According to the MSDS (MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEET), it contains 99% methanol, and 1% "Proprietary Additive " That is close enough to pure methanol for these purposes.

Iso Heet, on the other hand, is 99% Isopropanol, with 1% of Proprietary Additive.

Eh, sorry about that. I haven't seen too many yellow bottles of it. That would be acceptable if you can find it.

                    Rubbing alcohol is 70% IPA.

The percentage can vary, but yeah.

I picked up some 91% at CVS to use as plastic safe paint stripper.

In my case I run whatever I need to get the right A/F ratio because I burn it. Sometimes that was 85/15 sometimes it's 50/50. Just whatever the dyno says.

Are they using it for cooling only? Or for fuel too?
