A 3400 TB is 56mm vs the 52mm of the 3100. It is basically a direct bolt on. You have have to pull the shaft out and swap them due to the linkages being different, but other than that, it will bolt straight up.
There are also a few aftermarket things available (only 1 true non-stock modified) that would get you even larger (up to 62mm), but you are looking at more $$ then. You could probably pick up a 3400 TB pretty cheap from a junkyard, ebay, etc...-Brad-

It would be very easy (IMO). As far as gains, I'm not sure. Don't expect huge gains, and I really doubt you'd even be able to feel a difference, but anytime you can introduce more air into the mix, you will cause improvements.
If you want, I have a 2000 3400 TB sitting in the garage. I'll measure it to make sure its a 56mm unit. Make me an honest offer (what do you think it would be worth to you), and I will consider it.-Brad-

All 3100's from 94-99 had a 52mm throttle body.
ALL 3400's from 96-pressent use a 56mm throttle body.
and now i believe that the 3100's with the larger port intakes from 2000+ also use the 56mm?? i cant remember if they also changed up to these as well.. i'll have to measure one at work here someday if i get ambitious enough to pull the air tubing off.Colin

Ooopsy my mistake... I see one thing and think another... Yeah the 56mm is the biggest...I know there was one smaller than the regular one(52mm?) that is usually offered on the W cars...I have it in my garage somewhere... It came from a '99 Malibu VIN J 3100, it was really small... the smallest I've ever seen. I know I saw a tb on a corsica and that too was rather smallish. Not that it's worth anything but if I can find the malibu tb I'll measure it...I'm pretty positive I've seen stock tb's for these engines in 3 different sizes.....Lorenzo

The only other TB that might be a different size is the funky one on the A-Body cars. With the integrated MAF.
Thinking about it now, those probably have some sort of variation of the V6/90 computer controlling them.
