  • Help Me! Or I may go to the dark side!

Ok So i've been slowly pulling together the many bit and parts needed to build a nice 3.4iron head for my lowly little japanese turd.....
The 2.8 runs awsome and I can't wait to have more hp...
But i've been nugged, slapped, and taunted by a beautiful opel Cadet in my area running a N/A 2.3 Quad 4 w/ individual throttle body mated to a t5...
Wow this car weighs 200 more pounds and I'm not sure about the rear gear
but this little car spanked me all over the Northen O.C. area....
The funny thing was, I didn't care I was soo impressed with this little motor
I old dude was cool enough to hang out for a few and "teach" me more about
the little power plant... This was bad ass! and it would shave weight!

So now I thinking.. Should I.. Could I..
My thought is I could put my time money and ability in to eather for the
same price and I just wounder which has a more potental..

    So I want the truth...

    3.4 Ironhead vs. 2.3/ 2.4Quad 4

depending on the year and option package, you could get up to a 190HP 2.3Quad4 in like 1990-1991. without a doubt, the most badass N/A 4-cylinder motor ever made by GM.
1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

I have a Quad 4 '91 Beretta GTZ. Bought it in California and it is No-Rust MINT!

Actually flew down there and drove it back to Canada.

Lots of fun to drive. Especially past 5000 RPM!

But my 3500 will kick it's ass!

not sure what motor options there were for a 91 GTZ, but here's an idea of what at least one of them ran:

        1991 Chevrolet Beretta GTZ 0-60: 7.7seconds 1/4 mile ET:16.1
1995 Monte Carlo LS 3100, 4T60E...for now, future plans include driving it until the wheels fall off!

They will run better than 16.1. I ran a 160 with a stock motor that has less hp, and a heavy auto...

The quad 4 isn't too lacking in torque either, it's not 189 like the 3100, but it's up there for a 4 banger...

I think if you make a hybrid and ditch those iron heads you could be well over 200hp easy... The quad4 is pretty pimped out as is.

                That's It!

                180 HP, HO Quad.

But it's alittle quicker than that.

                It'll dip into the 15's.

                But still fun to drive.

the Q4 is easier to work on than most V6s too because of the amount of room around it.

A coworker built one for his olds. Then spun rod bearings at 7k. I'm sure it was the operator, not the... motor that was the problem. LOL
Increasingly I find the difference between a "fact" and an opinion is the number of people who believe it.
