I doubt it will negatively affect anything, but you aren't going to gain anything. If money is an issue, I would probably go with ported upper and lower intake, and wait to get the TB later.-Brad-

theyre together, if i went with a ported lower later would the upper then benefit also?Originally posted by bszopi View PostI doubt it will negatively affect anything, but you aren't going to gain anything. basically what i would be getting is a gasket matched and polished intake manifold and throttle body for a 3400, i realized that gasket matching will give some benefit, but will there be benefit without the lower intake manifold, and would that gasket matched items benefit anything say, if i already had a ported lower?
hope that makes sense lol

Like Brad said, get the ported upper and lower, and the Tb after if money is the issue. If not, only getting a larger Tb will benifit till you get the lower ported to match an upper ported intake.
Having just a ported lower might not yeild as much of a gain than having both either.
Also, taking the lower intake off while the upper is removed is less work than taking just the upper intake off in most applications, so if your there, you maise well do both, and its always a good idea to replace the lower intake manifold gaskets with felpro steels.

Felpro isn't the only company that makes the metal gaskets. You will benefit from a ported (don't polish) upper intake on a stock lower. Porting the lower would be better but if you don't want to pull it then its not going to hurt, or even leave you with nothing gained.
Gasket matching is one method of porting. It isn't necessarily the best way to port but its by far the easiest to understand, and abused as a generic term for all of porting. I just wanted to point that out.Ben

thanks ben, i havent posted a ton but everything i have posted you have helped a ton with, i have a nice gasket matched intake manifold lined up that is also polished for a great price, but i wouldnt do the LIM right away, which LIM that you carry would be similar to a gasket matched UIM or would you need pics to justify that?Originally posted by SappySE107 View PostFelpro isn't the only company that makes the metal gaskets. I saw gains with stock heads, stock LIM and ported upper; more gains with stock heads, ported lower/upper; most gains with everything matched on the flow bench. You would think that the step would make things worse, but as Ben mentioned not all the gains will be had where parts meet at the gasket. Hence the general thinking that "gasket matching" is porting, when in reality, research may not say so.
To answer you question bluntly, if you want to dig in the engine a little at a time, making the parts better as you go will benefit in efficiency, power and reliability. Preventative maintenance never hurts, using upgraded replacement parts is even better.

so your saying that getting what im looking at would be a good idea?Originally posted by ForcedFirebird View PostI saw gains with stock heads, stock LIM and ported upper; more gains with stock heads, ported lower/upper; most gains with everything matched on the flow bench. and either of those would be fine with the gasket matched?Originally posted by SappySE107 View PostIf its gasket matched for the 3400 gasket, then the sportsman and competition 3400 lower will work just fine.

alright cool, thanks for the help, i just posted in the members rides section if you want to see what this work is going to be done to.Originally posted by SappySE107 View PostYes to both those questions.
im looking at doing the UIM first and then finding someone to help me with the LIM when the time comes because that task is a little bigger obviously, thanks for the help

if i dont have the computer programmed for it will i have trouble with just codes or more? if i just have a code i'm fine with it for a while, but i don't want to run lean or something like thatOriginally posted by SappySE107 View PostEGR delete is fine. Just make sure you have the computer programmed for no EGR.
