I've never had a problem with a motor mount. The 2.8 had 170,xxx miles with the same motor mounts never any problems.I don't have metal engine mounts they are filled with polyurethane shore 94a.Too give you and idea a bowling ball is shore 100.lol

newer tank is pressurised tho to use that id ahve to switch quite a few other things i think? i could make the lower mount solid? then it would be thick steel to thick steel idk

using the 92+ style might be easier. again, Robert's idea will even be more simple. I like the modern look of the coolant tank, and i never had a problem with the mount, the 91- style, ive seen nothing but troubles So i'm bias to one. A solid mount might be great in all, but its thick steel to sheet metal, its going to crack over time.

there is 2x 93 beretta's there 1 of which has the acual mount removed so ill just drill off the body mount like u sugested.. and for the coolant recovery.. ill probly get a small aftermarket tank and stick it infront of the radiator.

so what are you going to end up doing with the mount delema? if you do the swap for the upgrade, you will have to change the coolant just and washer jugs, thats the only kinda delema about it. For that lower mount on the passenger side, i think you might be better off to make one up yourself by ordering up some 2 piece poly bushings and going from there, i dont recall those being made anymore. I wonder what ever happened to the poly upper mount that i recall a company making at one point in time....
Looking into it, RKSport use to make it...
heres the lower
A good idea

2.2's have the same bolt pattern housing. Well i'm glad you took my advice, i was going to take a picture of a 3400 with sludg build up today for ya. You should be able to ask who ever runs the yard about the milage fro mthe vin or a painted number on the car. They should have records, or atleast i would hope. That grand am doesnt look all that bad actually, i would look into it. some deposits on that cross section pattern of the head look like fine metal.
I wish i took pictures of one motor that i swapped due to a huge knock, ended up being a rod at the wrist pin, and the....oil sludge build up on the underside of the lower intake was Atleast 1/2 think, and was the consistancy of whats in your BBQ, not even exadurating the slightest bit.

So i went to pull and save today they had 3 cars with 3400 motors all with digital dash's so no idea of mileage on these motors but i took pics of two of the motors the 3rd was a definit no sludge hanging off the fill cap...
1999 pontiac grand am by far the cleanest motor had newer plugs and wires pretty clean airfilter didnt have tools so couldnt turn it over

1999 olds alero pretty dirty as you can see doesnt look beat on but dont look like its taken care of either...

both picture cars had been in wrecks the 3rd thats a definit no had a strait body so another reason to rule it out
unfortunatly there was only 2 manual chevy cars... both 4cyl so im going to hope they get a v6 manual in soon...Last edited by Codyisin; 01-31-2011, 08:23 PM.

Mine is indeed a 89 gt not a 95.There are no 95 cars that had a 5spd unless it was changed.I needed to have a custom engine mount made.Being that your car is a 91 you already have the newer style mount so it drops right in.I can't really say much about the new style mount because i don't have it.I have soild motor mounts and don't have any problems.Yes my car is OBD2 with 2000 gagt harness and ecm.The engine is a 2003 gagt it just looks like a beretta.

he's building a hybrid with pistons and cam (and the rest is still undecided lol just joking rob) he said he used a grand am wiring harness to run the motor. i could have swarn his was a 95 though, so he has all the mounts. Are you going to have access to a welder Cody? you will need for that upper mount onthe passenger side.
you will need a timing cover that looks like this:
you know what, check out this whole page:
i guess you could use your current mounts for the motor, but from what i gather, they changed the design for good reason. the top mount blows out on the newer design mostly because of the lower passenger mount being a stamped POS
this is from a Q4, but the first few pictures are the same mounts as what was on a 3.1
I've seen guys blow through the from passenger side mount too many times like you have, so if someone else wants to jump in here and offer a solution aside upgrading the mounts, please do.Last edited by bob442; 01-29-2011, 04:32 PM.
