Because some rules specify a Certified Bell housing and not just a blanket.Originally posted by 19Cutlass94 View PostWhy not just gt a blanket instead of a custom bellhousing? MUCH MUCH cheaper.

I was looking at that balancer as well, but its listed for FWD and RWD cars so I wasn't sure which its for. Also, my trigger wheel is welded to the pulley, so is that an issue? Do I just need an SFI balancer or the whole balancer/pulley assembly?Originally posted by Superdave View Postsaw balancers were mentioned, this is the one i almost bought for mine... http://www.summitracing.com/parts/at...make/chevrolet
If i ever convert to an internal 7x trigger i'll probably get one, right now my trigger wheel is bolted to the stock balancer.'89 Firebird, 3500 Turbo, T56, 9-bolt/4.11

That blanket is meant for the trans housing itself and not just the bell housing. TQ converters typically don't blow up like a clutch/flywheel does, but the Auto clutch pack can explode in the same way, hence the blanket for the trans.Originally posted by caffeine View PostI know they sell certified blankets for autos. gotta be RWD only, the FWD balancer is also the pulley. You should be ok if the wheel is welded to the pulley.
you may want to check this thread out, he used one. http://60degreev6.com/forum/showthre...fters-with-2-8

they're easy enough to swap with the engine in the car anyways.."I am not what you so glibly call to be a civilized man. I have broken with society for reasons which I alone am able to appreciate. I am therefore not subject to it's stupid laws, and I ask you to never allude to them in my presence again."

Finally got around to putting my braided hoses together:

Fuel hoses; return line comes from the schrader valve for now to the FPR

Oil drain

Oil feed from beside oil filter
And picked up a turbosmart boost controller for $20. I'll probably upgrade to an EBC later.

Hopefully I'll finish up the engine part of the wiring over the weekend.'89 Firebird, 3500 Turbo, T56, 9-bolt/4.11

SFI bellhousing arrived today. Very beefy and heavy

Backing plate seems to be about the same thickness as the adapter plate. Since it won't fit behind the flywheel AND over the adapter plate, the plan is to copy the adapter plate bolt holes onto the backing plate, then ditch the adapter plate. The backing plate will also need a hole drilled for the starter but I don't know yet if I'll need to clearance much of the bellhousing for the starter. IIRC it will fit a 168-tooth flywheel which I think is larger than the LT1 stock flywheel. If the bellhousing has a larger diameter inside than the stock one, I shouldn't need to clearance it much for the starter.
Unfortunately, I probably won't have time to work on it at all until next Wednesday. I did get a bunch of wiring done over the weekend though.'89 Firebird, 3500 Turbo, T56, 9-bolt/4.11
