  • Pre '99 timing set install

Hey guys, I had a 2004 timing set on my car, and I think it has stretched some, as I don't remember that much play. So I'll be switching to the beefier pre '99 setup. Any tips or suggestions on the crank gear? Haven't done that before so I'm not exactly sure what to expect.

    Thanks!

i used a socket big enough to cover the gear and fit around the crank bolted that down until i had a decent amount of threads and used the stock crank bolt to finish the rest.. forget the longer bolt i used but the threads matched.

      Thanks!

Ive done some research, and found some interesting specs..

The chain I have now, is only 8mm wide.
      The 94-99 chain is 11mm wide (http://www.rockauto.com/info/SealedP...tml?222385.jpg)
and the older chain, pre 94, is 15mm wide (http://www.rockauto.com/info/SealedP...tml?222372.jpg)

So my question is, could I run the older chain, and will it fit in the cover? I know every suggests the GM 99 chain, but if this is thicker, could I run that set?
Summit has it for $42. (not a cloyes set, its a clivite/sealed power) (need to order parts from there anyways)

Is there a reason the aftermarket cams aren't available with the 3-bolt iron head cam sprocket flange? IIRC the iron head chains just appear much beefier and are something like twice as thick.
