  • Just got some headers......

Got these pretty babies right here:

    S&S Headers

    Header Front (right bank)

    Header Rear (left bank)

    Rear header oppiste side

I know there will be firewall clearnce issue with the 5th gen but I plan to find a way to deal with it.

Which do you guys think would be better and more possible, reshaping the firewall some or modifying the headers?

or maybe a bit of both?

Those aren't coated are they? I think you will have to cut the rears up and have them angled different, if that alone will even do it. I havent seen your downpipe area.

looks good. Good luck on the install , super fine steel wool is a good way to keep your ceramic coat nice and shiny. Post pictures when your done?

I will of course post pics, yes they are coated. If I end up having to chop up the rear set a bit will I have to have them recoated, I would Imagine so.

the firewall setup on the 5th gen monte is similar to the 6th gen w-body, the GP and the Grand am however the downpipe meets with the rear manifold over by the drivers side as opposed to the center of the rear manifold.

The firewall is molded to fit this, so I will either have to modify the firewall some to make clearance or chop the rear header a bit.

How much do I stand to loose preformance wise by making an angle cut? Are there methods that can reduce the amount of restriction that modifiying the header may create.

          hehe, i recognise those..

i had them was going to make them fit the Jbody. but too much work.
(stupid header hit the 5spd trans and wouldnt bolt up)

can i make a too late recomendation? you should have just bought the Uncoated set, as IF to make them work you have to cut them up to rework the rear header to make it fit, then spend the $ for the coating after they are modified and fit the new engine bay. as your now going to have a set of coated headers that will be cut up and possibly new pieces of uncoated pipe/bends welded in..

let us know how it goes.

yeah I was thinking that myself, but oh well, mostlikey if it comes down to it I will end up only recoating the rear set as the fronts should fit fine.

I want to try and aviod modifing the headers if possible though. I really wont know how close I am until I get in there for a test fit.

I plan to do the install sometime in the next 3-4 weeks. Ill take plenty of pics :-)
