The stock GM ignition systems run too hot (too high of Millijoules )

This is the same in the newer Honda's and others higher mJ OEM ignition systems.

This was something that many suppliers were alerted to, what happens is after not many miles the center fine electrode burns down into the surrounding ceramic insulator cone.

What was recommended is to ONLY install them in the vehicles that have them equiped from new, so in other words a OEM application.

Good to know, thanks. I probably would have ended up using them again.

        Yep..

I put a set in a friends 2.8 Cavalier by his request and they lasted for a few months before it developed a missfire, same with the AC Delco Rapidfires. Ended up using Champions ($.90 ea) and they worked for another 20K till we scrapped the car.

IIRC it also has something to do with the waste spark system..

what about the iridiums? I have heard people having no issues with them in a 60V6.

            Anyone here try these Iridiums?

i have the Denso U-groove Iridums. no issues. shouldn't...they are harder and have a higher melting point than platinums.

There is NOTHING WRONG with OTHER platinum OR iridium plugs

It is JUST THE BOSCH PLATINUM PLUGS because of there tip design. No other company makes them with a high ceramic cone covering the fine tip.

I haven't had any problem with other platinium style plugs EXCEPT when the vehicle RUNS RICH OR FLOODS, then the fine tip platinum AND iridium plugs both miss fire like crazy where the regular style plug will still miss fire but NOT NEARLY AS BAD.

If you are running AC platinum or iridium plugs JUST make sure your engine is running fine and they'll work good.

Use them IN THE APPLICATIONS THAT CALL FOR THEM THOUGH.

                    yes.

i tried NGK iridiums but didnt have them in for long. it was around the time i was having problems w/ my magnecor wires. i cant remember why i took them out or how long i had them in there. i had a set of Pt rapid-fires and one of them went bad, but it couldve been due to the wire. now, i just run the R42's mentioned before.

i'm sorry, but what part of that did you want to hear? imo, its a waste of time and money to try anything but regular coppers in these cars, esp if you have to keep swapping plugs out on a car w/ 96-97 upper plenum.
